Set in a time when the sea and sky ruled the little fishing villages dotted along the African coast, Storm holds her stone and sings and everyone in the village stops to listen…
This little heroine positively glows with natural vitality, starkly contrasting with the gloomy spectre of her feathered nemesis, with Chantelle and Burgen’s clean lines, sparkling use of light and breathtaking detail beautifully complimenting the wild backdrop of the magnificent but unforgiving sea. The illustrating duo say of the project:
“The setting of this story was one of the most wonderful things about it - from an artist's point of view. There are great sweeping vistas of sea and sky which were a joy to create. The brief required a naturalistic handling of the illustrations, so we crafted very painterly landscapes, using lots of lovely textures and layering the image like an oil painting and hinting at the time the story is set, before the days of outboard motors and Sat-Nav”.
We promise, this gem of a book will have you singing for joy! The Singing Stone , published by Jacana Media, winner of Children's Publisher of the Year, Africa region, at Bologna 2018 and out now!
