Merce Canals' latest award winning book!

We are thrilled to announce that Merce Canals’ most recent project ‘Living With Hilda (and its disadvantages)’ has won the 36th Destino Infantile Apel les Mestres International Children’s Book Award! Last spring author Bel Olid sent Merce a tale about a little girl who was trying to adopt a new pet and these dynamic images are the result.

“Living with a crocodile might sound thrilling, but it can be inconvenient. She’s got so many teeth, she spends HOURS brushing them in the bathroom. And once they’re clean, she’s still a crocodile. What if she’s suddenly hungry and eats ME up? A parrot’s much better”.

As innocent as Hilda first appears with her large glasses, sweet bunches and braces, as the story unfolds you realise that maybe this funny girl is the real problem and not the beasts of the forest and the savannah…she is capricious and impatient and all of them disappoint her!

Farewell Babette

It was with great sadness that we heard the news of the passing of the fabulously eccentric and anarchic children's writer and illustrator Babette Cole yesterday. The 'Princess Smartypants' creator has had a profound effect upon the world of children's picture books and the influence of her (more than 70!) glorious and irreverent stories we are sure will continue to inspire future generations of writers and illustrators! So we say our own farewell to a unique and passionate lady!

A Rabbit's Tale!

Everybody loves a story where the underdog wins in the end don't they? Well this beautifully vibrant illustrated version of The Clever Rabbit for Oxford University Press' Literacy Series by the wonderfully talented Akbar Ali is certainly no exception! This well-loved story of the rabbit's use of logic to outwit his hungry opponent is brought to life through Akbar's sensitive portrayal these majestic and secretive animals. You can almost feel the warm evening sun as it sets on this inspiring little tale!
